Anonymous asked: Some of the characters are obviously based off those from Dragonlance. Like Flint vs Chert. Are all of the characters in Dragonlords some way or another based off other characters, if so who are they based off? And which ones are completely original?
Some are based off them, some fill the roles of others, and some are quite unique. You are correct that Flint is Chert (chert is another name for flint), and he is probably one of those who was made decidedly modeled after a Dragonlance character.
Silvertongue was modeled after Tas, with a streak of the Knight in Sturm, since we had no good swordsman in the group, specially at that time. As the story has advanced though, he’s been more and more filling Tas’s role and not as much the need for a good fighter.
Grisfam is based off Fizban, though at first I had no idea this was so. Originally he was just an old slave in the mansion where they find Iris, and he somehow evolved into being the crazy wizard we all love from the Dragonlance books.
Iris fills in Goldmoon’s position, though their stories and personalities differ widely from those of the books. She is still the one that holds the blue crystal staff.
Though we’ve yet to publish the first part of their own tale, Lyuthi and Veldahar’s stories are loosely based off Laurana and Tanis, though again there are differences, the Silvan Draiks are our ‘elves’ as we made the jerboas our ‘kender’ and the tonu our ‘dwarves’. Once we find the archives of how Veldahar and Lyuthi meet you’ll see more similarities to the characters of the books.
The rest of the characters fill in gaps, one way or another, but aren’t quite as clearly based off character books. In some ways I think Cade is our own ‘Elistan’, though he differs widely from the Priest of Paladine of the books.
There are more similarities between books and characters, but some are still not very apparent and have evolved in other ways. In the future (and this hasn’t even been RPed yet) we will come to see some similarities for example in showing us that the main character of our story, Jing, will fill in Alhanna’s role, and we’ll soon meet the Commander of the Blue dragonarmies, Veldahar’s old love (based off Kitiara).
As you can see, there are some similarities here and there, but most of the cast besides those mentioned were created original and at times, where the story requires it, fill in roles of certain characters of the books. Some scenes remain very close to the ones of Dragonlance, while others differ greatly. It remains to the readers to pick out where we used parallels and where we went on tangents.
